On Tuesday 4th June, businesses and entrepreneurs from across the county gathered at Leicester racecourse to hear LOROS Hospice’s exciting news – a spectacular new elephant-themed art trail, Stomp Round Leicester, is coming to the city to celebrate the charity’s 40th anniversary.
In July 2025, 40 gentle giants will make their way onto the streets of Leicester forming a trail of Elephant sculptures across the city. Each one will be beautifully decorated by a professional artist to create a free, fun, family-friendly trail of discovery for local people to enjoy.
At the end of the trail, each giant Elephant sculpture will be auctioned to raise money for LOROS Hospice, helping terminally ill local people and their families at the most difficult time of their lives.
At the launch, more than 50 brilliant businesses were invited to get involved by becoming a foster family for an Elephant sculpture, choosing which design will decorate it and supporting it through its journey.
They were wowed by a spectacularly striking ‘hero’ sculpture by artist Donna Newman. ‘Cellie-bration’ is an explosion of colour featuring 40 intertwined elephants beneath a Leicester skyline, showered in celebratory ticker tape.
Rob Parkinson, LOROS CEO said: “We wanted to unveil Stomp Round Leicester to the business community as early as possible simply because their support is so important for this to be a success.”
Delegates heard about numerous benefits enjoyed by businesses who took part in the 2021 art trail, Rocket Round Leicester, from investment in the local economy to increased footfall in the city.
LOROS patron, comedian and comedy writer Greg Davies also sent a message, encouraging local businesses to get involved in the initiative.
Rob added: “LOROS is at the heart of its community and for our 40th anniversary we want to celebrate with local people, friends and family who are touched by our services.
There’s been a lot of changes during those years, but LOROS’ mission remains the same -providing care of the highest quality to patients and their families in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
“We’d like to invite all our corporate friends and supporters to get involved too, raising funds and awareness of our services, to see us through the next 40 years.”
