Overview

Meet ‘Paddy’ from Saint Patrick’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in the heart of the Belgrave area of Leicester. As the Patron Saint of our school, the image of Saint Patrick features prominently but, as our school is enriched by them, it was important that the many different faiths of our pupils be represented in Paddy’s design.
One of our very talented Teaching Assistants, Patricia Byrne, painted the image of Saint Patrick by hand and supported some of our pupils with additional learning needs to add their handprints to Paddy’s legs.

Paddy is also adorned with shamrocks. This symbol is associated with Saint Patrick who reportedly used it to explain the Holy Trinity (the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) to the Irish people. Additionally, the three leaves of a shamrock can symbolise faith, hope, and love – virtues we hold dear at Saint Patrick’s.
